Two problematic dudes here but I do love this painting. Much like the figures now, it’s not easy to remember how important they were to the idea of sub-culture in their primes. MM let a lot of kids be weirdos and HH broke through a wrestling ceiling that made that pursuit something more ok in the mainstream. I was focused on both of those aspects in the painting and I am pleased at the results if not the subjects (some of the news had not yet broken when this was made). When you’re painting pop culture, this will happen.
